ABOUT US

Haunui Retirement Village

In the late 1970’s there was concern by people living in the Darfield area that there were few retirement living opportunities for older local residents, meaning that they often had to move out of their local community. The wider community responded to this challenge and raised funds to establish the Village with the first residents moving in in 1980.

All this effort was done by community volunteers and so Haunui was granted charitable status. Over forty years later the Haunui Trust maintains its charitable status and is led by a Board of Trustees from the local community who give their time and expertise on a voluntary basis.

The Board is supported by a number of staff including a Resident Liaison Coordinator, a Property Coordinator and a Financial Administrator along with a number of professional advisors. Covenant Trustee Services is our statutory supervisor who monitor the financial position of the Village and the security of our residents’ interests.
